The iron ions help bring out a vivid color when pickling eggplant and are also used to help clams release sand before cooking.

The set includes two sizes: a smaller piece measuring 95 x 25 x 20 mm (3.7 x 1 x 0.8 in) and weighing 150 g (5.3 oz / 0.33 lb), and a larger piece measuring 80 x 30 x 30 mm (3.1 x 1.2 x 1.2 in) and weighing 170 g (6 oz / 0.37 lb). Combined, the set weighs about 300 g (10.6 oz / 0.66 lb).

The cast iron will rust when exposed to salt and water, but washing it with hot water and drying it well lets it be used again and again.
