This mandoline slicer set is made in the Tsubame-Sanjo area of Niigata Prefecture, a region known for cutlery and metalwork. It is designed for jobs that are slow to do with a knife, such as cutting cabbage or other vegetables into fine julienne strips, and it lets you prep without a cutting board, which also means less to wash up afterward.
The seven-piece set includes a julienne plate, a flat-cut plate, a grating plate, a peeler for peeling vegetables, a safety holder for slicing small or oddly shaped vegetables, and a case with cover so every piece stores together compactly. The peeler measures about 13 x 7 x 1.5 cm (5.1 x 2.8 x 0.6 in) and weighs about 20 g (0.7 oz).
