The I-18 Hira Chawan rice bowl is part of Hakusan Porcelain's Hira Chawan series, crafted in porcelain and made in Japan as part of the Hasami ware tradition. The series was selected for the Good Design Award (G Mark) in 1993 and received the Long Life Design Award in 2004 for its design.
Flatter and wider than a standard rice bowl, measuring 15 x 15 x 5.5 cm (5.9 x 5.9 x 2.2 in) and weighing 230 g (8.1 oz / 0.51 lb), this shape stacks neatly for storage and sits comfortably in the hand.
Beyond serving rice, the bowl also works well as a small dish for side dishes and simmered foods, and suits desserts or fruit.
