This flat rice bowl is part of Hakusan Porcelain's popular Hira Chawan series, made in the Hasami-yaki tradition of Nagasaki, Japan. This piece is the H-18 design. The series was selected for the Good Design Award (G Mark) in 1993 and received the Long Life Design Award in 2004, and it is offered in more than 100 pattern variations inside and out.
The bowl is made wider and flatter than a typical rice bowl, a shape that also stacks neatly for storage. It is easy to hold and works well as a small bowl for side dishes or simmered foods, and it also suits desserts or fruit.
