This shallow rice bowl (hira-chawan), model G-5, is part of a long-running Hakusan Porcelain Hasami ware series that was selected for the Good Design Award (G Mark) in 1993 and received the Long Life Design Award in 2004. The series includes more than 100 design variations, combining different glazes and patterns on the inside and outside of the bowl.
It is made wider and shallower than a typical rice bowl, which also allows the bowls to stack neatly for storage. Besides rice, it works well as a small bowl for side dishes and simmered dishes, and it can also be used for dessert or fruit.
