This small bowl is part of the Tomoe Teshio series from Hakusan Porcelain, a Hasami ware maker, and is finished in a blue-white (seihaku) glaze. It is the smallest of five sizes offered in the series and was recognized with a Good Design Award in 2000. The shape is formed from two gently overlapping circles, giving it a smooth, soft outline, and each size has enough depth to suit a wide range of dishes.
Because the rim is shallow, it works equally well as a small plate or a small bowl, so you can use it however fits your table. It is a good size for a soy sauce dish, a condiment dish, or a dipping sauce bowl.
