This flat rice bowl is part of Hakusan Porcelain's Hira Chawan series, a design recognized with the Good Design Award (G-Mark) in 1993 and the Long Life Design Award in 2004. The series includes more than 100 pattern variations across the inside and outside of the bowl, with this piece in the YI-5 design.
The bowl is wider and flatter than a typical rice bowl, which lets pieces stack neatly for storage. It is easy to hold and works well as a small bowl for side dishes and simmered dishes, as well as for dessert or fruit, in addition to its use as a rice bowl.
It measures 15 cm across and 5.5 cm tall (5.9 x 2.2 in) and weighs 230 g (8.1 oz).
