This Hakusan Porcelain Flat Rice Bowl, model YN-1, belongs to the brand's popular Flat Rice Bowl series, which received a Good Design Award in 1993 and a Long Life Design Award in 2004. The series offers more than 100 design variations across the inside and outside of each bowl.
The bowl measures 15 x 15 x 5.5 cm (5.9 x 5.9 x 2.2 in) and weighs 230 g (8.1 oz). It is made larger and flatter than a typical rice bowl, which also helps the bowls stack neatly for storage. The shape is easy to hold and works well as a small bowl for side dishes and simmered dishes, and it also suits desserts or fruit.
