This small dish, called a kotsuke, is part of the Hitoe series by Hakusan Porcelain, made in the Hasami-yaki porcelain tradition. It shares the series' curled, wrapped-cloth design and smooth glaze, with a rounded edge that is easy to hold.
At about 11.5 cm across and 5 cm deep (4.5 x 2 in), it is compact but deep enough to use as a small bowl rather than a flat dish, and it weighs 150 g (5.3 oz). It suits a range of Japanese dishes, including breakfast items, and this blue-white glaze color is one of three colors available in the small dish design.
