Kezuri-bashi are Hyozaemon's signature chopsticks, hand-carved one at a time by craftsmen in pursuit of a comfortable grip. Each pair is finished using suri-urushi, a technique of repeatedly applying and wiping off 100 percent natural lacquer so the wood grain shows through, which leaves a slightly textured surface from the fine lacquer particles.
This medium size measures 21.5 cm (8.5 in) and is made from manilkara wood, which has a reddish appearance. The small, hand-carved irregularities in the surface are said to fit naturally into many different hands.
These chopsticks are not dishwasher or dryer safe.
