This pair of chopsticks is from the Kiraku Yoyo series, made for everyday use. The body is asunaro wood, said to be one of the lightest woods used in lacquered chopsticks, so it puts less strain on the hand. Rubbing raw lacquer into the asunaro wood gives the surface a slightly textured feel, and a carved, grooved grip helps the chopsticks sit comfortably in the hand and resist slipping from the grip to the tip, making food easier to pick up. It is shown here in navy and measures 23.5 cm (9.3 in) long.
The tips are coated with natural lacquer. Hyozaemon offers relacquering and repair service so the chopsticks can stay in use for many years, part of the maker's approach to sustainability (SDGs).
