These chopsticks are from Hyozaemon's Kiraku Yuyu series, created for the idea that everyday chopsticks should be comfortable to use. The wood base is asunaro, said to be the lightest wood used for lacquered chopsticks, so the chopsticks place less strain on the hand.
Applying rubbed lacquer (suri-urushi) to the asunaro wood gives the surface a slightly textured feel. A grooved carved pattern, called kezuri, fits the hand and resists slipping from the grip to the tip, making food easier to pick up.
This is the Black, Large size, measuring 23.5 cm (9.3 in). Each Hyozaemon chopstick has a tip coated with natural lacquer, and Hyozaemon offers lacquer touch-up and repair service so the chopsticks can be used for many years. Made in Japan.
