The Kezuri-bashi, or carved chopsticks, are Hyozaemon's signature design, hand-carved from wood, here yuzu, so each pair is shaped individually rather than turned to one fixed profile. This medium size measures 21.5 cm (8.5 in).
The look is understated, and Hyozaemon says customers often tell them that once they start using these chopsticks they do not want to go back to another pair. This Hachishiro set was chosen as a gift from the Japanese government to visiting heads of state at the G8 Hokkaido Toyako Summit in July 2007.
As with other Hyozaemon chopsticks, the tips are coated with natural lacquer, and Hyozaemon offers relacquering and repair service. The set includes a wooden carrying case about 14.4 cm (5.7 in) long, a chopstick rest, three cleaning wipes, and a paulownia wood storage box.
