Iwachu Nambu Ironware Eggplant Set of 2 33-003

This set of two cast iron eggplant-shaped weights from Iwachu is used in traditional Japanese cooking. The iron ions help bring out a vivid color when pickling eggplant and are also used to help clams release sand before cooking.

The set includes two sizes: a smaller piece measuring 95 x 25 x 20 mm (3.7 x 1 x 0.8 in) and weighing 150 g (5.3 oz / 0.33 lb), and a larger piece measuring 80 x 30 x 30 mm (3.1 x 1.2 x 1.2 in) and weighing 170 g (6 oz / 0.37 lb). Combined, the set weighs about 300 g (10.6 oz / 0.66 lb).

The cast iron will rust when exposed to salt and water, but washing it with hot water and drying it well lets it be used again and again. Made in Japan, model 33-003.
