Koyanagi Juju Wooden Vegetable Grater Honeycomb Blade 27cm

This wooden vegetable grater comes from Koyanagi Sangyo, a company in Tsubame-Sanjo, Niigata that has combined wood and metal into everyday kitchen tools since its founding in the early Showa era.

The honeycomb blade shreds vegetables into julienne strips that are a little thicker and shorter than what a standard slicer produces, the style originally used for the Okinawan dish shirishiri. Because the fibers are cut more roughly than with a slicer, the surface becomes slightly rough, which helps the vegetables take in seasoning better. Hold the grater upright or at an angle over a bowl rather than laying it flat. It works well with carrots as well as daikon radish, cucumber, and potatoes for dressed vegetable dishes, pickles, or salads.

The paddle-shaped body has a handle that is easy to grip. It measures about 27.3 x 8.5 x 2 cm (10.7 x 3.3 x 0.8 in) and weighs about 130 g (4.6 oz / 0.29 lb). It is not dishwasher safe and is made in Japan.
