This kitchen brush is a collaboration between Kyoto Katsugu and Kitayama Masazumi Shoten, a workshop that has made palm fiber brushes for 55 years. It is meant for a pre-wash step before reaching for a sponge or the dishwasher, using soft shuro palm fiber to lift stuck-on food and residue without scratching surfaces.
The handle is natural wood shaped for a comfortable grip, and the brush face is angled so it can clean pans and dishes flat-on. A hole through the center helps it dry quickly, and an attached cord lets it hang from the sink.
The core around which the palm fiber is wound uses thick 1.6 mm (0.1 in) stainless steel wire for durability, and each brush is hand-woven, which gives it a denser, firmer bristle feel suited to pots and pans of any material. Measures 19 x 7 x 3 cm (7.5 x 2.8 x 1.2 in) and weighs 52 g (1.8 oz / 0.11 lb). Made in Japan.
