Marna Standing Rice Paddle Clear K555CL

This standing rice paddle rests upright on its own wide base, so it does not need to be left soaking in a dish of water the way flat paddles often are. It won the Good Design Award in 2009. The scoop face has a special embossed texture; the small bumps contact the rice grains and make them roll rather than stick, which helps keep starch from building up, so rice does not stick to the paddle and dried, hardened rice from a previous scoop will not mix in with a fresh one.

The scoop edge is very thin and the grip is shaped to be easy to hold, so it is less likely to crush freshly cooked rice as you scoop. It is made of polymethylpentene (TPX) resin, which resists scratching and staining and stays looking clean through repeated washing. The clear, frosted-glass finish gives it a simple look. Made in Japan.
