Shimizu Mokuzai Edo Ohitsu Sawara Wood Rice Container 27cm 10 Cups

This is an Edo ohitsu (Edo bitsu), a traditional Japanese wooden container for cooked rice, from Shimizu Mokuzai. The body is made of sawara cypress grown in the Kiso region and is held together with copper hoops.

The 27 cm (10.6 in) size, known as 9 sun in Japan, is a commercial size that holds about 1 sho, or 10 Japanese rice cups. That is roughly 6 to 13 servings, suited to restaurants or large gatherings.

The wood is left plain with no coating. Made in Japan.
