Shimizu Mokuzai Edo Ohitsu Sawara Wood Rice Container 30cm 15 Cups

This is an Edo ohitsu (Edo bitsu), a traditional Japanese wooden container for cooked rice, from Shimizu Mokuzai. The body is made of sawara cypress grown in the Kiso region and is held together with copper hoops.

The 30 cm (11.8 in) size, known as 1 shaku in Japan, is a commercial size that holds about 1.5 sho, or 15 Japanese rice cups. That is roughly 10 to 20 servings, suited to restaurants or large gatherings.

The wood is left plain with no coating. Made in Japan.
