This sake cup is handcrafted at the Yachiyo Kiln, known for Edo glass made in the historic Shimousa region of Japan, in what is now Chiba. An artisan wraps thin rods of colored glass and gold leaf around clear glass, then shapes each piece by blowing it by hand, giving it a glossy, one of a kind finish.
The rich color and gold leaf give each cup a luxurious look, and the handmade texture gains character the more it is used. The glassmaking method follows Edo glass techniques recognized as a traditional craft designated by Japan's Minister of Economy, Trade and Industry.
Each cup comes in its own gift box, making it a nice choice for a gift. This cup is offered in two sizes and a choice of colors. Because every piece is handmade, slight variations in shape, weight, and capacity are normal.
Made in Japan.
