This ladle, known in Japanese as a shakushi, is carved from a single piece of hinoki cypress wood by Yamako, a traditional material for Japanese kitchen tools. It is used to serve rice, soup, or other foods from a pot.
It has a smooth handle and a shallow bowl shaped for scooping and serving, making it a light and easy addition to everyday meals at the stove or dining table.
