Toyo-Sasaki Glass Yachiyo Kiln Edo Glass Sake Cup Snow Viewing White

This sake cup is made at the Yachiyo Kiln, known for Edo glass crafted in the Yachiyo area of Chiba, a region once known as Shimousa Province. An artisan wraps thin colored glass rods and gold leaf around clear glass, then shapes the piece by mouth-blowing it, giving each cup a glossy finish that reflects the seasonal feeling of old Edo.

This design, called the snow viewing sake cup, is built around the image of a winter sky with fine snow drifting in the glow of snowlight. It measures 8.4 x 8.4 x 5.6 cm (3.3 x 3.3 x 2.2 in), weighs 110 g (3.9 oz), and holds 80 ml (2.7 fl oz).

The Yachiyo Kiln continues the techniques of Edo glass, a traditional craft designated by Japan's Minister of Economy, Trade and Industry. The cup comes in its own gift box, making it a nice choice for a gift. Because each piece is handmade, slight differences in shape, size, weight, capacity, and color are normal.
