Shimizu Mokuzai Ohitsu Sawara Wood Rice Container with Flat Lid 27cm 10 Cups

This ohitsu from Shimizu Mokuzai is a traditional Japanese wooden container for cooked rice with a flat lid that rests on top (nosebuta style). It is made of sawara cypress grown in the Kiso region and held together with copper hoops.

The 27 cm (10.6 in) size, known as 9 sun in Japan, is a commercial size holding about 1 sho, or 10 Japanese rice cups. That is roughly 6 to 13 servings, suited to restaurants or large gatherings.

The wood is left plain with no coating. Made in Japan.
