This is a classic Japanese rice paddle (shamoji) made of hinoki cypress by Shimizu Mokuzai. It is used for serving rice and for mixing rice.

The paddle is 48 cm (18.9 in) long, with overall dimensions of 48 x 12 x 1 cm (18.9 x 4.7 x 0.4 in). This large size offers long reach and a broad blade for handling big batches of rice.
