This sake cup is handcrafted at the Yachiyo Kiln, home of Edo glass made in the Yachiyo area of Chiba, a region once known as Shimousa Province. A glass artisan wraps thin colored glass rods and gold leaf around clear glass, then shapes the piece by mouth-blowing it, giving it a glossy, one of a kind finish that reflects the seasonal moods of old Edo.

This cup, called the Hanami sake cup, is designed around the image of cherry blossoms in full bloom with petals drifting on the breeze. It measures 8.4 x 8.4 x 5.6 cm (3.3 x 3.3 x 2.2 in), weighs 110 g (3.9 oz), and holds 80 ml (2.7 fl oz).

The Yachiyo Kiln carries on the techniques of Edo glass, a traditional craft designated by Japan's Minister of Economy, Trade and Industry. Each cup comes in its own gift box, making it a nice choice for a gift. Since every piece is handmade, slight differences in shape, size, weight, capacity, and color are normal.
